Ambrosia Maple is not a specific species of maple. It's a term used to describe any type of maple that has been infested by ambrosia beetles. The beetles bore into the tree, and with it bring fungus that discolors the wood.

Since this stool was also finished with shellac- which is a finish made from the secretions of female Lac bugs in India and Thailand... This particular stool is brought to you in large part by insects.

The back leg has several turquoise inlays that fill the area around the naturally occurring burrs and knots. I chose these pieces specifically for their wild grain structures. Between the turquoise inlays, the shades of pink, peach and blue/green in the ambrosia top, this is quite a colorful and whimsical perch.
