Padauk has a natural luster even when unfinished. It does tend to get darker with age, but it always retains it's deep glowing patina. It cuts very smoothly with a sharp chisel and is always a pleasure to work with.

The legs were a bit trickier to make. Black Palm is considered a grass and not a hardwood at all. It is somewhat similar to bamboo in that it's made of many dense fibers. Because Black Palm is prone to splintering, it was necessary to seal it with CA glue (aka Krazy Glue) and sand it to a very fine grit. The results are impressive, and I love the pairing with the Padauk top. These two kinds of wood together make for one substantial seat. Weighing in at 9 lbs, it's the heaviest stool in this batch by 3 lbs. Handle with care.
